Stem cell therapy

Stem cell therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that helps repair and regenerate damaged tissue and cells, promoting relief and improving one’s mobility and function. A therapy utilizes stem cells to treat and manage medical or health conditions.

Stem cells play an important role in our body during the natural healing process. Stem cells can produce more cells and renew themselves into identical cells or differentiate into more specific types of cells. It has the capability to replenish, as they are responsible for repairing injured organs, cells, or tissues in the body.

Two types of stem cell therapy

Autologous stem cell therapy

involves harvesting or using stem cells sourced from your own bloodstream or bone marrow. Since the stem cells come from your own body, there is a lower risk of developing rejection while promoting healing. These cells can be harvested from bone marrow or adipose (fat) tissue.

Allogeneic stem cells

These stem cells are obtained from a donor who is closely matched to you to minimize the risk of rejection. The cells are often obtained from an allogeneic stem cell transplant, including umbilical cord tissue or bone marrow.

Benefits of Autologous Stem Cell Therapy

Autologous Stem Cell Therapy offers personalized treatment options to meet the patient’s needs based on their condition. A treatment that aims to improve the efficiency of the healing and repair of specific tissues or organs.

Patients with injuries, including bone fractures or cartilage damage, benefit from this therapy, as it aims to promote the growth of new tissue and enhance healing to improve the overall function of the affected area.

Benefits of stem cell therapy

Reduces Pain

Stem cell therapy helps alleviate inflammation due to its anti-inflammatory properties, which can relieve symptoms associated with chronic inflammatory pain and conditions.

Stem cell therapy aims to address the underlying causes of degenerative diseases and injuries by replacing damaged cells and restoring immune responses.

Stem cells can differentiate into various cell types, promoting the repair and regeneration of damaged tissues to restore your function and mobility.

Frequently asked questions

What are the potential side effects and complications of Stem Cell Therapy?

After stem cell therapy, patients may experience mild and well-tolerated symptoms, such as mild pain, swelling and discomfort at the treatment site.

Some individuals may also experience temporary fatigue or low-grade fever as the body responds to the therapy. These effects are typically short-lived and improve within a few days with proper rest.

Minimizing the risks associated with stem cell therapy begins at the pre-treatment evaluation. It is essential to undergo a thorough medical assessment with our provider, which may include necessary laboratory tests and a review of your previous medical history. The evaluation will help our provider have a better understanding of your current condition. It will also serve as an identifier for the risk and contraindications that can affect the efficacy and safety of the treatment.

Stem cell therapies are safe when performed in a regulated environment that practices strict safety and quality control protocols and ensures that the treatment is administered in proper techniques performed by licensed medical professionals.
At AHBA, stem cells that are used for treatment are high-quality and clinically tested to ensure safety and efficacy.

Stem cell therapy effects depend on the body’s response, the condition before the treatment, and the kind of stem cell therapy used. The improvements from the stem cell therapy are often seen within a week, and it takes 6 months to a year to fully observe the maximum benefits of the stem cell therapy.

Educational Guidance for Stem Cell Therapy

Pre-treatment
  1. Have an appointment with your provider for a thorough medical evaluation and necessary tests to determine your current condition.
  2. Avoid taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for at least two weeks before the treatment. NSAIDs. These medications can decrease the effectiveness of stem cell therapy.
  3. Prior to treatment, perform exercise, including aerobic or gentle range-of-motion movements, to improve circulation and overall health and help to maximize the benefits of the steam cell therapy.
  1. Monitor your condition after the treatment. Avoid close contact with individuals who are sick or have been recently ill.
  2. Get plenty of rest and avoid strenuous activities in the first 24 to 48 hours to prevent fatigue or fever, as your immune response is adjusting to the therapy.
  3. Refrain from applying force pressure to the joint or muscle that was treated, and maintain the area clean to prevent the risk of infection.
  4. Avoid taking supplements and medications, including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as they contain anti-inflammatory properties that may disrupt the healing process.
  5. To support stem cell growth, avoid foods that contain high sugar levels and fats. Focus on foods that are rich in nutrients, such as protein-rich foods, and supportive anti-inflammatory alternative foods like dark green leafy vegetables and berries, or citrus fruits
  6. Discuss with your provider your exercise regimen that benefits your condition following the treatment.
  7. Monitor progress and attend follow-up appointments. This will allow your provider to assess your current condition and make necessary adjustments to your progress and treatment plan.
